Welcome…

Black Logotype

Welcome to Progeny Theatre Company’s blog. The aim of this blog is to document the research, devising and producing processes we undertake to create our final year degree showcase.

Mission Statement

Progeny Theatre Company’s mission statement emphasises that we exist to change the perceptions and perspectives of those who are familiar with children’s stories. In doing so, we hope to alter the genre of  ‘Children’s Theatre’, to directly encompass the adult audience. We aim to create theatre, which allows escapism for adults by adapting children’s stories. Our theatre company aspires to create that which has not been seen before through controversial and innovative means, which will be enhanced through use of elaborate set, costume and technical elements.

A Gothic Tale

Progeny Theatre Company presents their debut performance ‘A Gothic Tale’, an adaptation of Angela Carter’s ‘The Bloody Chamber’ that tells the story of what comes after the “Happily Ever After”. Expect a visually stunning piece of theatre, which creates a liminal impression of standing on the threshold between two worlds.

It is a corrupted fairy tale, challenging the traditions and expectations we have come to expect from “Once Upon A Time”. When the Fairy Tale World slowly becomes corruped and cracks begin to show, we are forced to question if any innocence can remain.

This performance is intended for adult audiences only (16+) and contains scenes of a sexual nature.
